While schools across Australia have unfilled vacancies for mental health practitioners, thousands of tertiary-qualified counsellors are available but are being shut out of the system.
   All state education departments except one only accept limited professions like social workers and psychologists to fill the role of a school-based mental health practitioner, even though counsellors are qualified and experienced. Read more

The act of abstaining from traditional schooling can be seen as a form of silent dissent, a tangible expression of the desire for an educational experience that better resonates with the aspirations and the demands of the contemporary world. New Resources Help High Schoolers Get Up to Speed

Currently, 1 in 5 students across Australia starts secondary school at or below the minimum standards for literacy and numeracy and these students often become disengaged and fall further behind their peers, making it difficult for them to catch up.
   Identifying these students early and providing them with targeted intervention using instruction backed by evidence is key in helping them to acquire the skills they need. Read more

Budget Eases Financial Pain for Trainee Teachers

Many trainee teachers face 'placement poverty' when giving up their own paid work to undertake mandatory placements as part of their degrees.
   In response, the budget has provided wage payments for all student teachers undergoing teaching placements Australia-wide of $319.50 a week.
   Commonwealth Practicum Payments (CPP), will ease the financial burden attached to long-term teacher placements. Read more

The process for getting an apprenticeship used to be somewhat mysterious, but it helped if you knew someone who was in the trade.
   Now, the transition to a clean energy economy means that workers will be needed in number to staff projects being rolled out across the country.
