Young people feel businesses don’t align with their values
There is a worrying disconnect between young people and businesses; the young believe Australian businesses are slow to align with their values and are a bit out of date in their attitudes.
   Over half (53%) of students agreed with the following statement, 'Businesses are stuck in the past and not up to date with the modern workforce.' Of students, 57% think this is because businesses don’t recognise the importance of work/life balance and 55% hold the view that businesses perceive their generation as lazy.

Parents and teens equally screen addicted
Did you ever wonder why kids spend so much time on their phones? Don’t ask the parents, often they’re just as bad or worse, 38% of teens feel their parent is addicted to their mobile device.
   There’s more; a majority of children with a parent who feels addicted to their mobile device also feels addicted themselves, creating households where the entire family is more likely to feel addicted to their mobile devices. More than half (56%) of teens who have a parent who feels addicted to their device feels addicted themselves. Read more

Alex Wharton is Copyright Agency first Reading Australia Fellow
Alex Wharton from Carinya Christian School in Gunnedah, NSW, is the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund’s first Reading Australia Fellow for a Teacher of English and Literacy.
   The Reading Australia Fellowship provides $15,000 to a leading English and literacy teacher to develop a career-enhancing research project which can be shared with other teachers to further the profession.
   Reading Australia is Copyright Agency’s hub for teachers, bringing Australian stories to life through the provision of peer-developed teaching resources, essays and learning materials. Read more

Music teachers get rock star moment
The Song Room and ARIA have announced that entries for the third Telstra ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award are now open.
   Last year, Scott Maxwell, from Grant High School in South Australia had his very own rock star experience when he shared the red carpet with Australian music legends and was celebrated as the 2018 award winner. He was one of four music teachers chosen as a nominee for the 2018 award. ARIA Ambassadors Guy Sebastian, Justine Clarke, Thelma Plum and Brisbane pop band, Sheppard visited their schools and helped to tell their stories. Read more

Picasso Cows – making art and learning about nutrition
Dairy Australia invites teachers to register their interest for the upcoming Term 3 intake of the curriculum-based learning program, Picasso Cows.
   Developed in consultation with teachers and education consultants including Kimberlin Education, the resources are part of the curriculum units, Farm to Plate and Health and Nutrition, and inspire learning through student creativity.
   The highly successful program has been challenging primary school students to find their inner Picasso and decorate their cow, for more than a decade. Read more

ATO’s 2019 Tax, Super + You competition, $6k pool to be won
“I’d like to tell you about superannuation, so you can retire without frustration” those were the opening words of last year’s Superannuation Rap which won student Sarah Milton from Charters Towers, Queensland a prize in the 2018 Tax, Super + You competition.
   So, you see taxation can be fun and the Tax, Super + You competition run by The Australian Taxation Office encourages wide ranging, creative submissions. Animated videos, drawings and video skits were among the inspiring entries received last year.
