Research-backed guide set to tackle cyberbullying
A guide backed by years of research into bullying gives teachers a reference when confronted with cyberbullying.
   Produced at Flinders Uni the resource provides students and teachers with information, supporting theory, and practical lesson plans for an eight-week anti cyberbullying program, aimed at both primary and secondary students. Read more

Intrapreneurs make for unselfish success
Like a lot of things, innovation and the ability to do it is inherent in some but can be fostered in anyone with the right environment.
   It’s a culture thing and an environment that encourages new ways of thinking, a ‘courage culture’, makes for a curiosity driven, innovative way of learning that paves the way for the new to arrive.
   Curriculum Design Consultant Rebecca Brownhall says “Innovation is recognised as a 21st Century learning capability and helps build an ethic of excellence for education, yet it’s not always easy to implement in schools.” Read more

Young females feeling unsafe, stressed
Young women don’t feel safe, for half, walking alone at night is scary and a general fear impedes these women from leading their lives in a normal way.
   A much higher proportion of young females than young males have reported feeling unsafe or very unsafe in their communities when walking alone after dark (46.6% compared with 18.1% of males). Young females were also more likely to report personal safety as a concern than their young male peers (21.6% compared with 14.3%). Twice the proportion of young females also reported security/safety as a potential barrier to moving out of home in the future compared to young males (28.3% compared with 14.2%). Read more

New online tool predicts future changes to jobs
Is being replaced by a robot in your future? It might well be and an online resource is a good place to start to see if your job is in line to be automated.
   The University of New England has worked with strategy and economics consultants AlphaBeta to develop an online tool that calculates not only your exposure to automation and other sources of change in your current job, but also how your job will change over the coming decades.
   Anthony Smith, Director of Marketing at UNE, said that it was something that hadn’t been done before. Read more

Before there was STE(A)M there was LEGO and it’s just as relevant today as it has been for 60 years; when kids play with LEGO they’re creating, designing and engineering and the latest LEGOLAND Discovery Centre competition is continuing with that tradition.

Anti-bullying strategies need an evidence base
Experts studying the problem of bullying say adult reactions to it can do more harm than good. When dealing with bullying, the most effective interventions come after listening to the bullied person and tailoring a response which is specific to them.
   Commonly used anti-bullying strategies don’t seem to have made a big difference to the amount of bullying that is happening, for instance encouraging students to speak up about bullying potentially opens them up for more severe retaliation if confidentiality is not provided. Read more

Cino Aust film breaks down barriers
In a progressive piece of cultural exchange students from the top academic primary school in Shandong Province, Shouguang Century School, China, came to Paddington to practice their English, meet students their own age and make films together. A document for friends, family, and their school in China of what life was like in Australia was produced.
   The films aimed to capture the experience of school in Australia from the perspective of the Chinese students. Read more
